The Duality of Tai Chi Chuan
There are two primary reasons for practicing Tai Chi Chuan: for it’s health benefits and as a martial art. The art obtained its name when Ong Tong He, a scholar in the Imperial Court, observed a demonstration by Yang Lu Chan (“Unbeatable Yang”). Subsequently, he wrote: “Hands holding Taiji shakes the whole world, a chest containing ultimate skill defeats a gathering of heroes.”
