Mis-truths About Dietary Supplements

There is a lot of money to be made selling nutritional supplements, to the tune of billions and billions of dollars per year.

So before you empty out your bank account, here are some common dietary supplement myths exposed:

1. Fish oil pills are healthy: The dose creates the poison here. And if you overdo it with fish oil supplementation, you put your heart as risk for increased oxidation. I recommend having no more than 1 gram of fish oil here.

2. Powdered sources of protein are superior: Nothing could be further from the truth here. In reality, whole food sources of protein will always beat out powdered sources. It’s all about digestion rates, you see. And the slowest digestion rates will create the best results.

3. Dinosaur vitamins are healthy: The last thing you should be doing to increase health is have endless amounts of highly concentrated vitamins. Not only is this very unhealthy, but it can become toxic once a certain level of consumption is reached.

4. You need to load up on Vitamin D: Yes, we all need more sun light. Yes, many of us are deficient in vitamin D. However, loading up on pills is not a good choice here. You see, too much vitamin D can cause your veins and arteries to calcify.

5. Energy bars are better than food for weight loss: Energy bars shouldn’t even be considered as substitutes for regular food. They are inferior sources of nutrition, period. You are far better off staying away from energy bars and sticking with solid food.

6. Caffeine pills and tablets increase fat loss: This is only partially true. You see, caffeine increases the rate of fat breakdown. However, breakdown is only one step in the fat burning process. Once broken down, fat still has to be transported and then burned.

The shocking truth is that most supplements don’t work. And you are far better off saving your money and using these savings to buy high quality whole food. This is the best strategy for long term and sustainable weight loss.
