Scalp is the touchable skin where our hairs grow. This is the part of skin which most of the hair care products taking care of. Scalp is naturally protected by the skin surface film and beneficial bacteria. Scalp is the second thinnest skin over our body. It is only 1/50 as thick as the skin of our foot.

Healthy scalp is in the color of pink. There are numerous sebaceous glands, sweat glands and hair follicles under scalp. The number of hair follicle has been fixed at the time when we were born. Around 20 pieces of hair can be grown from each hair follicle. Therefore, the number of hair follicle will only decrease. Under normal metabolism of scalp, we have around 40 to 100 hairs fall out every day.

Hair conditioner should be applied after rinsing shampoo. Most of us apply hair conditioner to both hair and scalp. Experts advise that hair conditioner (except anti-dandruff conditioner) should not be applied to scalp. On the contrary, hair conditioner with dandruff conditioner must be applied to scalp in order to release its effect.

As scalp is a part of skin, it also has different types such as oily, normal and dry. Whether it is oily or dry depends on the sebum secretion. Sebum secretion is controlled by gene hormone. Such sebum secretion decreases throughout our lives in general. Besides, it is also affected by easting and resting habits.

Itchy scalp is problematic. Most of itchy scalp is not because of scalp hygiene but irritations caused by fungi. Therefore, it may still happen even though you have washed your hairs. You may wash your hairs with anti-dandruff shampoo to relieve the itch. Seasonal itch may also be reduced by maintaining peaceful emotion.

No matter how itchy your scalp, you should never scratch your scalp when washing your hairs. Scratching scalp with nails may hurt the scalp and cause infection. This may worsen the problem of scalp. You should massage your scalp with your finger tips.
