Serving the Beauty needs of women around the world is Mary Kay’s mission. In an effort to provide the best products services and business opportunities…Mary Kay conducted a global survey in the countries where we are selling Mary Kay products called “What Women Want”. . In addition to selling Mary Kay in the United States the survey was conducted in several other countries where products are sold. Included in the survey were Mexico, China, Russia, Brazil, Korea and the Ukraine. We all had a wonderful time getting to know these women, and to ensure we all had a wonderful time each woman was allowed to invite one of her girl friends to participate in the survey as well. Much was learned as each women was encouraged to share her thoughts on beauty and shopping.
So, selling Mary Kay make was far from our minds on this trip. We were more interested in finding out exactly what women wanted when it came to their beauty needs. The Mary Kay representative gathered information about how they made their cosmetic and skin care purchases. For most it was “the sky is the limit”. In other words they made their purchases in every kind of way imaginable…department stores, specialty shops, direct sellers, boutiques, online you name the method and our gals were using it. What they all looked for was easy access, availability and above all convenience. Selling Mary Kay through our independent consultants made all that possible.
What she also wants is CONTROL over her shopping experience. She wants it to be fun, social and casual, and sees the opportunity to browse as a part of the experience. She wants to TRY IT BEFORE SHE BUYS IT. She wants the opportunity to touch and experience it before she lays down her hard-earned money. And she is much more likely to try a new product that has been recommended by a friend or family member. “This is all about being pampered and I know what its like to want to be pampered, to have choices ” says Mary Kay beauty consultant Londa Schexnayder. “That is part of the reason I wanted to become a Mary Kay representative”.
Women are also interested in having a trusted advisor to direct them and guide them in their purchases. People who are good listeners and have their best interest at heart. “Its nice to have some one you can trust to tell you the truth about what works and why it works” they said. Some one who can take a holistic approach and advise them on their fashion and jewelry as well as the right shades and colors that fit a particular occasion especially in an industry that changes every season. All the advantages that come along with working with a representative selling Mar Kay.
None of this is surprising to the beauty industry, given that consumers have been in control of the buying process for quite some time now. Consumers, especifically women consumers, want to call the shots, with as many options as possible. When she has choices, she feels more in control. The only rule is that there are no rules. She gets to choose how, when, where, and how often she buys.
“But, Mary Kay isn’t here to just sell make up” says consultant Londa Schexnayder marketing Mary Kay is about giving women confidence and power. The power you get when you know you look and feel your best. It was the crusade of its founder Mary Kay Ash and is carried on by women around the globe. Is that all that women want? we ask.
An Opportunity they can trusted they said. Women have always sought people they can trust in doing business. The recent economic collapse that was brought on by a few unscrupulous people has only strengthened that resolve. They are ceasing to do business with the kind of institutions and people who brought on these economic woes in favor of the people and institutions they feel can be trusted
Perhaps this is the reason for Mary Kay’s extraordinary success. It is a company built by woman for woman to give them opportunity on an even playing field. When asked what are the selling Mary Kay pros and cons Londa says “I get to work with extraordinary women who were looking for the same things I wasthe opportunity to make as much money as I believe I’m worth, the flexibility to create my own work schedule, The freedom to live my life on my own terms”. All of these things are what makes the Mary Kay opportunity so appealing.
With all the pros going for it..it was hard to come up with any cons so we ask. “it’s not a get rich quick system said Londa but if you’re willing to work with the same commitment that you work for others the sky is the limit.
Our survey now concluded the results are in when it comes to shopping for their beauty needs women want: control, flexibility, no pressure, the flexibility to try things on, a pleasant shopping experience, good products, have fun, knowledge staff, and control over the whole experience. And just for good measure will throw in the incredible opportunity that selling Mary Kay provides.
