This is not just another article that tells you to go on a diet, when you look and feel fat. This article will provide you with information that will enable you to lose weight and keep it off. It will help you to achieve weight loss that will be permanent. To achieve permanent weight loss, you must understand what happens in your body when you eat.
What Your Body Does When You Feed It
When you eat, the food is broken down into glucose. Glucose is also called blood sugar. It is the main source of energy for your body. It is carried to the muscles of your body by your bloodstream.
When glucose arrives in your blood stream, your body produces insulin. Insulin allows glucose to enter the cells of your body.
If insulin was not present, glucose would not be able to enter your muscle cells. If this happens, your body would be deprived of the energy it needs to perform the tasks you need and want it to do.
At The Heart Of Weight Control
Regulating the amount of insulin that is released into your body, is the centerpiece of weight management. Whether you lose weight or gain weight is determined by this.
When there is an excessive supply of insulin in your body after a meal, your cells absorb only the amount of glucose they need to provide you with energy. The insulin triggers your body to store any remainder of glucose, as fat.
Additionally, fat burning does not occur in the presence of excessive insulin. Your failure to regulate the amount of insulin in your blood after eating, will penalize you in 2 ways. You will be adding fat to your body, as well as preventing it from burning fat.
What Causes An Excess Of Insulin To Be Released In Your Body?
There are several causes. In this article, I am addressing the biggest cause, because I think it will be most helpful to you in managing your weight.
Once 2 hours have elapsed after eating a meal, your blood sugar level (amount of glucose in your blood) starts to fall. This is because the glucose has been absorbed by your cells. Your blood sugar level will continue to go lower, as more time elapses without eating. The longer the time between eating something, the lower your blood sugar will go. When you finally eat something, your blood sugar will soar to a high level. A high blood sugar level prompts your body to produce a large amount of insulin. This is the way your body works.
When Should You Eat?
To regulate your blood sugar level, you should eat something every 2 hours ideally, but certainly no less than every 3 hours. You should not be eating 3 meals a day. From a weight management point of view, you should be eating at least 5-6 meals per day.
Of course, you will need to reduce the amount of food that you eat in each meal, if you are eating 5-6 times per day. Dont ever miss a meal. People who try to lose weight by skipping meals are doomed to weight loss failure, based upon what you now know about blood sugar levels and insulin.
Please realize that there is so much more to know about controlling your weight, but this information gets you started in the right direction.
