One of the most sought after physical attributes is a flat, sexy midsection. And contrary to popular belief, doing a thousand sit-ups a day alone isn’t going to flatten your stomach . To achieve this one must lower their overall body fat percentage with proper diet and exercise.
But, did you know there are 4 sneaky little ways to a slimmer stomach without doing hours and hours on the treadmill? Let’s take a look at each of these and see how we can add them to your daily regimen !
Hold It In – There’s something to be said about people who suck their gut in! By sucking in you work and develop the muscles in your midsection, which in turn improves your appearance. It’s also one of those ab exercises you can perform anyplace, anytime.
Relieve Stress – Stress has been known to signal your body to store abdominal fat. Research done at Yale University concluded that of the 160 female subjects, the ones who reported the highest levels of stress had the largest midsections. This is due largely to the stress hormone cortisol telling your body to fatten the waistline. To counteract this try taking up an activity you love like listening to music, taking vacations, or anything that will limit stress.
Watch Calories – The only way to get rid of that belly is to take in less calories in a day than you burn. To achieve this you can lower your caloric intake by following a proper diet (lowering your daily calories by about 200 or less) and to burn more calories with exercise such as running, weight lifting, etc. Removing extra calories from the diet can be tough for many, so to make this as easy as possible is to eat low calorie foods that fill you up. Foods such as water-dense fruits and soups.
Banish The Beer Belly – Beer is calorie dense, which is one of the main reasons it collects around the waist – hence the term “beer” belly. And studies have shown that beer adds more to your waistline than other types of alcohol. Research at UNC found that those who drank beer had the highest waist-to-hip-ratio compared to the others who opted for the same equivalent of hard liquor.
