Is it factual? Is there such a thing as a nutritious chocolate? The world is still hankering for these palate delights but it may no longer be as a result of their heavenly taste. A study carried out at a Swedish institute proved that heart attack survivors who had chocolate favors twice or thrice a week increased their chances of survival by up to 30% over those who had none. This study is published in the Internal Medicine Journal a year ago which reported that chocolates are healthy. But how much chocolate in take can be regarded as healthy? It is said that 1.6 ounces each day is considered healthy. Although only a third of the fats found in dark chocolate is actually fattening, eating it excessively can still bring unwanted health effects.

Flavanoids is the component of chocolates that has earned it its fame. These are antioxidants that give fruits and vegetables their green, purple, yellow or blue colors with shades of orange or red. Examples of food rich in these antioxidants are berries,kale, kale, broccoli, squash, berries, cherries, spinach, plums, apples, tea and wine, all of which are linked to the regulation of hormones and prevention of different illnesses and conditions including heart disease, hypertension, cancer, hardening of the arteries and high LDL levels. Besides physiological effects, chocolates have also been associated with improved psychological well-being through the promotion of feelings of pleasure and relaxation while the food acts as a natural antidepressant.

Chocolate buffs around the world have only grown in their affection for these delectable treats which are now not just for the satisfaction of their sweet tooth. These brown temptations could certainly find their way into any health buff’s daily diet without being considered a liability. Their benefits know no age, gender or race which means anybody can benefit from their health-promoting properties. Just like anything else, moderation should still be observed.
