There was a time in this world when the need to lose weight was completely unheard of. People ate well, but the worked well too. They woke up early in the morning and then engaged in a whole day’s work. This work was mostly physical labor. People worked on fields digging, sowing, harvesting. They tilled they soil, rode horses, worked on farms and ranches. The result was that they could afford to eat almost anything they wanted in whatever quantities they wanted. But that was ages ago. The world has changed so much since those days. Life styles have changed so much and the comforts and facilities have increased so much. But every rose has its thorn. When young children are reckless in their diets, it does not pose as a major concern. They practically eat nothing and weight problems are not as significant. However, once you turn twenty, signs of weight gain begin to show, particularly in all the wrong places.

It’s not about the hour glass figure or the perfectly sculpted and toned body. It is more about staying fit and remaining healthy to ensure a long, disease free life. Every body knows that those extra pounds spell illness. All over the world people are switching to a healthier life style and the catch line is indeed weight loss. 1. Drink lots of water. Our bodies are composed mostly water, so it is important to keep it hydrated. Water can flush out any toxins and any other substances, but even if you are perfectly healthy, if you have more water in your body you will feel better. Water is the best beverage for weight loss, since it contains 0 calories, and it can actually also help discourage any desire to overeat.

2. Start your day with a glass of water. As soon as you wake up, gulp down a glass of cool water. It’s a wonderful way to start you day and you only need a lesser quantity of your breakfast drink after that. A glass of water lets out all your digestive juices and sort of lubricates the insides of your body. You may have your morning cup of tea but have it after a glass of water. It is good for you.

3. Drink a glass of water prior to each meal. The water will help you feel full and hydrate you at the same time, so it will prevent you from stuffing yourself.

4. Have another glass of water during your meal. This is another step towards making yourself full so that you can feel full yet eat less. Rather than drinking all of it immediately, take small sips after each bite. It will help the food to settle faster so that you get that feeling that you are full faster, as well lubricate the food so it goes down easier.

Side note: Water is such a remarkable thing, but seldom do we give it the credit that it deserves. Did you know that over 66% of your body weight is nothing but water? It’s amazing! Water also plays a vital role in weight control, which is why I donated so much space to it, above.

5. Avoid anything kind of beverage that has excess sugar, particularly soda. All soda and carbonated drinks (except for club soda) are sweetened with sugar or corn syrup, which contains loads of calories. The less sugary drinks you consume, the better. If you find yourself craving for a soda, try flavored seltzers – they contain the flavor but none of the sugar.

6. Incorporate foods that consist of lots of water into your diet, such as tomatoes and watermelons. These two foods contain 90 to 95 % water, which allows you to be full without adding extra pounds.

7. Eat fresh fruit rather than drinking fruit juice. Juice is often sweetened but fresh fruits have natural sugar, called fructose. In addition, when you eat fresh fruit, you are taking in a lot of fiber and a variety of vitamins that can get lost in the juicing process.

8. If you do have a craving for fruit juice, choose fresh fruit juice instead of brands that contain artificial flavors and colors. An even better choice is to try making your own fruit juice, so that you know it will not have any extra sugar or artificial ingredients.

9. Choose fresh fruit over processed fruits. Processed and canned fruits lack the fiber in fresh fruit, as the processing can take nutrients away. Even worse, the processed and canned fruits are often sweetened with syrups.

10. Increase the fiber intake in your diet. The body requires a lot of fiber to process the foods you consume, so try to include as many fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet, particularly those that are rich in fiber.
