As some people would think that the causes of OCD scrupulosity has got relations tracing back to religious background, it should be noted that they do not share any link or whatsoever at all. In actuality, scrupulosity is a form of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder or OCD, a biologically based disorder usually inherited, especially if a person has affinities with someone whom have had OCD in their histories. Although some of them are developed due to certain incidences or circumstances that leans to towards the development of an obsessive compulsive disorder. OCD has a clause wherein it can lead to making a person suffer from severe psychological consequences.
Obsessions are actually recurrent thoughts or impulses that can practically make a person anxious over a lot of things. For example, certain people suffering from OCD develop certain over sensationalized fear on anything that is dirty, like public comfort rooms and anything held by more than one person. The obsessions persistently plagues the person having them despite the strenuous conscious effort to do away with them. Even worse, they can back with more severity than before as they recur a lot more often making the person more anxious about everything around him or her.
They remain relentless until they have sufficed their obsessions. If this is left untreated, it could result to a permanent case. That’s why in some worst cases, many OCD sufferers are confined into mental institution because they are rendered into a permanent state of the disordered.
Compulsions are behaviors or actions that are highly repetitive and the person often feels compelled to execute them in order to relieve them from their obsessions. They believe that doing or complying with these compulsions will make them feel better, even though they are aware that it is remedial and that whatever anxiety they feel prior would just eventually recur. Example of compulsion manifestations are the urge the count, wash, check or repeat words or phrases to one’s self.
OCD can take any forms as it manifests into person’s life. The intensity of an obsession or compulsion may vary depending on circumstances over time. They can be sexual, aggressive or religious obsessions and they could even occur all at the same time in a person suffering from obsessive compulsive disorder.
