Isn’t it incredibly frustrating when you’re tired and just want to get some rest, but for some reason you can’t fall asleep? It’s something that I’ve experienced plenty of times in my life, and it’s not a pleasant one.
What about seeing light come through the window as the sun rises in the morning when you haven’t even fallen asleep yet? You already know in the back of your mind that it’s not going to be a productive day, and every minute that you can’t fall asleep is just adding to the problem.
So what’s the best way to avoid sleeplessness? There is a lot of advice out there on the subject, but it doesn’t seem to help. Are there any sure-fire methods to help you get to sleep?
If you’re desperate, there are some sleep aid medications that you can take, such as Simply Sleep. I generally wouldn’t advise taking such medication since it puts you at risk for other problem, but they can be effective. If you just have occasional sleeping problems, it’s probably not a good idea to take such medication.
A simpler way of relaxing so that you fall asleep easier is to read a book in bed before you turn out the lights. Reading at night usually brings on that drowsy, heavy eyelids feeling for me.
You may even be better off reading something boring; I find that the more boring the reading material, the more quickly it makes me tired. Plus, even if the plan doesn’t work and I don’t fall asleep, the time wasn’t wasted as I was being productive and learning something!
Reading before bed works to make you drowsy because it forces your mind to focus on the book and to ignore the fact that you can’t sleep. This concept leads the last piece of advice I have for those who can’t sleep.
Try your best not to think about the fact that you can’t sleep. The more you think about it, the less likely you will be to actually fall asleep. It’s just one of the quirks of the human brain.
