With all the attention focused on DHA supplements, these days, you should suspect that there’s nothing new going on. But that’s just not true. Obviously, you’ve heard of fish oil. It’s a great method of obtaining omega-3 fatty acids, especially DHA and EPA. Do you realize, however, that krill are also a way to obtain omega-3 fatty acids in oil?
Krill are small shrimp-like creatures that reside in the ocean. They’re an essential food source for many varieties of fishes, mammals, and birds, including whales, seals, and penguins. Because krill feast upon the same food sources that fish do, their bodies collect oil that’s elevated in omega-3 fatty acids, just as tuna together with other cold water fishes do.

Rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, appear to be helped with krill oil. It also appears to lower triglycerides and levels of cholesterol maybe even a lot better than fish oil. Just as fish-oil has a tendency to help diabetics, krill oil may lower blood glucose levels. So, there are a host of ailments and diseases that krill oil has a tendency to help. Pregnant women and women who are nursing also are taking krill oil because studies have shown that DHA supplements can help increase the development of children’s brains.
There are no recommended dosages for krill oil, because it’s really too new. Most people stick to the same recommended dosages for fish oils of 1 to 3 grams per day. You can buy krill oil from a various places both on and off-line. It is made in capsules just like fish-oil. You’ll want to keep it away from sunlight and humidity, just as you would with your fish oil capsules. As in everything, you should consult your doctor before you take krill oil, or any supplement. As increasing numbers of scientists study krill oil, much more of it’s healing properties will be made know. For now, DHA supplements of any form are certainly something you need to take into account for better health.
