During this article I would like to go over the side effects that I have heard about for the common anti depressant Citalopram Hydrobromide (Celexa). It is normal for prescription medication to have different side effects accompany it. You know when you are watching the drug commercials and the fast talking guy at the end runs through them really fast and it is usually accompanied by fine print. Well the reason they do that is because not everyone experiences side effects to every drug and some of the side effects may be very rare. Different people will experience a different range of side effects and it is virtually impossible for a doctor or other health care professional to determine if you will experience any certain side effects to any medication that they may prescribe for your needs. When taking Citalopram or any other medication for that matter it is important that you notify your doctor of the adverse reactions that you may be experiencing, no matter how severe they might be for you.
The Shakes or Shakiness: hard to hold hand steady; also described as feeling jittery
Nausea: feeling weak to you stomach, possible vomiting and dizziness
Drymouth: also known as cotton mouth, always being thirsty
Sleepiness: excessive tiredness and wanting to go to sleep early
Decreased Sex Drive / Ability To Perform: mild erectile disfunction
Loss Of Appetite: not feeling like eating
Increased Perspiration: sweating a lot more than normal
Trouble Sleeping: unable to fall asleep when laying in bed
Rash or Hives: breaking out with hives or irritation on your skin
Hypothyroidism: he thyroid gland does not make enough thyroid hormone
Diabetes: developing the condition of diabetes (very rare)
Congestive Heart Failure: CHF (very rare)
Black or Bloody Stool: experience blood in stool (very rare)
Chest Pain: pain in the chest area
Confusion: feeling confused and having trouble understanding normal situations
This is in no way a comprehensive list and remember that you may or may not experience these side effects. If you experience any of these side effects let your health care provider know right away so that they can evaluate their decision to keep you on Citalopram Hydrobromide (Celexa). Remember that not everyone will experience the same side effects to any drug. People will also experience the side effects at different levels of severity. If you experience any of the more severe side effects or experience an allergic reaction to the medication contact you doctor immediately. If you are experiencing shortness of breath or severe chest pain call 9-1-1 right away. I hope this article was informative and if you need more information regarding Citalopram Hydrobromide (Celexa) or it’s side effects then you should contact your primary care physician or the manufacture of the drug and they will be able to give you more details and facts about the drug and it’s known side effects.
