If you have ever tried to lose weight and found yourself overwhelmed by negative thoughts, you can probably agree that your state of mind has a lot to do with the state of your body. Many people would call this phenomenon the “law of attraction” – creating your outer reality by the power of your thoughts. This works with weight loss in the sense that whatever you focus on the most is what is going to manifest in your outer world. Releasing negative thoughts is vital – you know, those horrible, mean, cruel things you say to yourself each day.
Why is it so important to release these thoughts? Because they are the complete opposite of the reality you are trying to create with the law of attraction. Think about it this way: you can spend time each day visualizing your beautiful new slender body – but if you spend a larger portion of your day focused on how much you hate your fat, how tired you are, how uncomfortable you feel in your own skin; what happens?
Two opposing messages (or intentions) are sent out to the universe. One communicates a strong desire and alignment with a slender, healthy body. The other keeps you locked in the same cycle of being overweight and hating every second of it. Your dominant focus will always win; and for most people the dominant focus is usually the older, stronger, more persistent one.
Resolving this problem is easy: just stop focusing on negative thoughts when it comes to your body. Of course, that is usually easier said than done, right? However, remember that you don’t have to do it all at once. Instead, just start working on strengthening your awareness of the negative thoughts, and change them to more positive thoughts when you happen to notice them.
Example: You are going about your day like usual, when suddenly you see your reflection in a store window and you feel frustrated because you are still overweight. Negative thoughts start running through your mind: “Wow, I can’t believe I’m still so overweight! When will I ever achieve my goal? I’m so tired of trying to lose weight and not getting anywhere. I can’t stand looking and feeling like this anymore.”
These thoughts directly oppose the positive outlook you want to have about your body, so it’s important to rewrite them whenever they come up. By consistently rewriting them, you will eventually create a new outer reality.
“I may not be satisfied by the size and shape of my body yet, but it doesn’t have to be this way forever. I believe that I can release excess pounds easily, and steadily feel better and better about my body. I believe that someday soon I will be happy about the reflection I see in the mirror. I can learn to appreciate my body, and my positive focus will just keep attracting more physical attributes to appreciate.”
Keep going like this, thinking as many positive thoughts about your body as you can. The more you do so, the more dramatically you are going to alter the messages you convey to the universe, and the more quickly you will see the results in your body.
The bigger changes will happen over time, but even right from the beginning you should notice some smaller changes that motivate you to keep working on it. Don’t get upset if it seems to be progressing slowly – eventually you will build momentum and find it much easier to stay focused on positive thoughts while dismissing any stray negative thoughts.
