Is Italian Food Making You Pack On Pounds?

Eating at restaurants is part of our social fabric. And if you are trying to get in shape, this can present a serious challenge.

After all, I’m sure you don’t want to become a dieting hermit.

Thus, without further ado, here is how to make sure Italian food doesn’t add pounds to your frame:

1. Just say no to the bread buffet: Having oodles of bread with butter on an empty stomach is absolutely horrible for weight loss. So to avoid any temptation here, ask your server to not bring out any bread. This will save you tons of calories and prevent unnecessary stomach fat gain.

2. Have some veggies beforehand: The most convenient way to do this would be with a salad. And if you get an olive oil based dressing with the salad, even better. You see, olive oil will help you feel full faster. As an added bonus, the roughage in the salad will help you feel full as well.

3. Drink some gas: A fizzy drink with lemon and/lime is a great tool for quenching thirst while simultaneously expanding your stomach. So make sure you don’t have any liquid calories. An acceptable alternative is to have a diet soda.

4. Have no more than one small glass of wine: Wine is ok here, you just have to be really careful with overdoing it here. If you are extremely sensitive to alcohol, limit yourself to half a glass of wine. You see, too much wine not only has lots of calories, but it also decreases eating inhibitions.

5. Stay away from appetizers: Ironically, the appetizers can have just as many calories as your main dish. So stay away from picking at appetizers and stick with your main dish instead. Moreover, if you have a salad beforehand, you are less likely to even want appetizers.

Eating out doesn’t have to be a weight loss death sentence. As long as you plan ahead a little and make sure you don’t eat impulsively, you will be fine!
