Resolutions for Wellbeing in the New Year

Each year people resolve to get more healthy. Common resolutions include “I will only eat extremely healthy foods from now on” along with “I am going to lose lots and lots of weight.” Wanting to become as healthy and balanced as you possibly can is admirable. The uncomplicated truth is that most people needs to strengthen his or her health in some form or other. At the same time, going overboard about New Year’s Resolutions is very typical. Unfortunately most of the people try and do too much too quickly because they drop all of their motivation by February or March.

So how can someone choose to get healthy without trying to do too much too soon? There are a couple of different methods in play here. The first is to go really slowly and only create little and easily achievable goals. The 2nd says that it is much better to plan out the long term with shorter jaunts along the way. If you wish to get healthy, the two approaches can help you get there. If you take one thing on “big picture” form, you’ll be able to break that down into smaller more easily achieved goals. Here are a handful of suggestions.

If you’re looking to lose 50lbs by 2012 that may be broken down into a little more than four pounds per month or one pound per week. That’s right: a bit more than one pound weekly. You can do that! All you have to do is lower the soda pop out of your diet and you should get there. Obviously just cutting out soda won’t be enough to reach the fifty pounds lost goal, but it will help you build momentum as you learn approaches to keep off the pounds you shed each week.

If you are interested in animal rights and would like to grow to be a vegan, don’t go vegan overnight. It will damage your health to do this and the withdrawals your whole body will go through will make the transition much harder and you won’t be able to adhere to your new commitment. Start out simply by reducing one type of meat. Then, after a time, drop yet another kind of meat. You can concentrate on the dairy after you have stopped eating meat for a while. After you’ve fixed your attachment to dairy, you can begin working on eliminating all of the animal-based ingredients in the bigger foods you eat (jello, for example, contains gelatin which is made from animal products). When you do this you will allow yourself longer to learn what to look for on ingredients labels and what new foods you should eat to make up for the foods that you miss eating.

There are lots of things that can be done to improve your health over the course of a year. New Year’s resolutions are a great way to get motivation in the beginning. Small goals to meet over the course of the year is how we will stay motivated past the usual resolution drop date.
