Tips to Start Your Year the Healthy Way

Now that we are well into the New Year it is usually about this time that New Year’s resolutions are forgotten and consigned to a bin labelled ‘good intentions, maybe next year’. The weather, going back to work or college, the length of time before pay day – all factors that contribute towards old habits creeping back and make resolutions extremely difficult to stick to.

It is almost as customary to break new year’s resolutions as it is to make them! Most people break them as the ones they set are far too ambitious or unrealistic. If you want to do something to improve your health this year, it’s not too late to start, take a look at some of our suggestions below as a starting point. Starting slowly means you will have something to build on and will be much less likely to lose interest early on.

Why not kick-off your new year with a visit to the dentist? To some that may seem like the worst start possible, however, if you are serious about getting things started in a healthy manner then there are few better places to start. Compared with going to the gym it requires a lot less effort and who knows, with the modern standards in dentistry and the plush surroundings in dental clinics it may even turn into a pleasurable experience?

At least half of the resolutions made will concern diet, people aiming to lose weight, give up fast food or to drink less. If you are thinking about setting a diet related goal it can be better in the long run to ease yourself into it. This will mean you can use each little success you have as motivation and gradually improve your diet – going too fast too soon will likely lead to loss of interest and you will no longer have the motivation to continue.

A good resolution that also concerns teeth is to promise to brush your teeth and to use floss or mouthwash as well. Doing this twice a day will improve the condition of your teeth and is fairly easy to fit into your daily routine. Small steps are the key to success and before you know it this will become second nature and you will be able to move onto your next health related resolution – you don’t have to wait for a New Year to take up another one!

Don’t leave it too late to do something about your lifestyle and the condition of your health. Even starting with something simple like brushing your teeth can make a difference, and it is much better than doing nothing at all. Make this year the year you start your healthier lifestyle and good luck!
