Giving ourselves credit when it is due is something that plenty of us fail to do; we can actually be very hard on ourselves. Rewarding ourselves is very important during a weight loss attempt because this can motivate us to keep going until we have reached our ideal weight and then keep doing the work we need to do to keep the weight off.
Unless we reward our weight loss achievements, we will feel as though we are just going through the motions and it is much more likely that you will just give up before you have reached your ultimate goal. Whenever you reach a milestone, you should reward yourself because you deserve it and as well as that, it will motivate you to carry one.
When I talk about giving reward for weight loss achievements I’m not talking here about celebrating with food. We need to get away from the association of reward with food and not strengthen this association by continuing to do it. Our rewards can be other things we enjoy like a trip to the cinema or a new addition to our music collection.
You should also have a significant reward in mind for when you reach your final goal; this could be something like a day in the spa or a trip away somewhere. These rewards will keep us motivated when the times are hard and will give us something to look forward to.
The best advice is to break our overall goal into smaller goals and have a reward associated with each of these. You will find that you are motivated to continue each time that you reach another goal. It is always better to divide big goals into tasks that are easier to accomplish or else the whole thing can become a bit overwhelming.
And in order to help you maintain your weight, you should set new rewards to keep you on the right track.
