Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy. It’s a simple, and safe Japanese system of natural healing which is used to reduce stress and tension but also promotes healing. It’s a system which was developed after years of meditation and research by Dr Mikao Usui who devoted years of his life to practising and teaching. Dr Usui died in 1926 but his method of Reiki continues to be carried out by practitioners who have been attuned to Reiki and Reiki Masters who have been trained in the traditions and attunement methods taught by him.
Working on the desire to be healed, Reiki can be given or received easily. It is not dependent on any particular religion or belief, it just works whether you belief in it or not.
Reiki is wonderfully relaxing and takes about an hour. During this time the practitioner will gently place their hands in a sequence of positions which are designed to treat the person as a whole. The hand positions are non-intrusive and cover both the front and back of the body, although they sometimes concentrate on a particular area requiring treatment. There is no massage or manipulation but you may notice feelings of warmth, tingling or coolness where the practitioner is working. After the treatment people have reported significant improvements in their health and also feelings of wellbeing and total relaxation. Reiki is used to heal physical, mental, emotional and spiritual issues. Reiki is used alongside traditional medical interventions and treatment and can also bring a sense of calm and acceptance to terminally ill patients.
It’s a fantastically simple and enjoyable technique to learn. Reiki is not taught in the usual way that we learn something new, but is transferred to a student during a Reiki class. As a Reiki Master I pass on the ability to perform Reiki treatments during an “attunement”. Following attunement the student can then ‘tap into’ an unlimited supply of “life force energy” which they can then use to treat themselves or to carry out treatments on others. Reiki can be taught to anyone regardless of age, culture or background.
Regular courses are run at both Harley Street, London and Sheffield practises. Courses start at beginner level and run through to Master level. They are simple, relaxed and offer a wonderful opportunity for personal growth and development.
