Limitless ways of losing weight are available for teenagers today. Unfortunately, it has become too common to see our youths become overweight. Therefore, it is essential that we find fun ways to get fit.
Teenagers tend to avoid losing weight when they feel pressured. When they feel forced and it seems like they must do it to please someone other than themselves, they are less likely to be enthusiastic about it. However, exciting techniques can help change their outlooks to make getting leaner something they truly desire. After they start enjoying what they are doing, there is a much greater chance of remaining true to their new lifestyle and goals.
So how can losing weight become a fun activity? The answer lies in the teen’s individual interests. There is bound to be something that they view as exciting. Traditionally the only options might be jogging or swimming, but in this day and age, it is even possible to lose weight playing video games. Many stories about weight loss with video games are quite amazing.
One teenage girl spends a lot of free time at the arcade where she is able to lose weight and have fun simultaneously. As a 17 year old, she started playing a game called “Dance Dance Revolution (DDR)” which actively involves the players. As a 235 lb. senior in high school, she was tremendously overweight. Today, she weighs 140 lbs. from dedicating herself to playing the game.
A simple game changed her life in a way that no one could have ever anticipated. How could such a positive force be so fun? She was able to gain more confidence in herself and be free of many health concerns.
In high school, she was a member in different ensembles, bands, theater, and had already played traditional video games, but rarely exercised. She was saddened with the understanding that her weight was making her unhealthy. She did not deal with her heaviness well. Like most obese people, she doubted her ability to ever become normal again. Losing that much weight just seemed impossible. Uncomfortable with her appearance, she hid behind the internet rather than going outside to meet people face to face.
A new and frustrating environment, college, seemed like too much to bear. In Autumn of 2002, a brand new version of a game called DDR USA was released with many new songs to dance to. Falling in love with the game, she began going to the arcade nearly every day to play it for hours, while also getting a workout.
Eventually she found a blog online where people could talk about DDR and other dance games. She became friends with these people who had common interests with her, and was motivated by them to keep playing more frequently. Around that time was when she started to lose most of her weight.
After six months of playing, she was able to lose 45 lbs. without even changing her diet. Discovering that it was possible for her to lose weight triggered her to make other healthy changes in her life. Becoming conscious of what she ate allowed her to lose another 20 lbs.
Regularly playing the game coupled with her balanced diet has helped her to be healthier and happier than she ever thought possible. A life changing experience simply because she was able to enjoy losing weight by doing something she loved.
