There seems to be a constant struggle between some sectors of the fat reduction industry and regulators such as the FDA, Food and Drug Administration and the FTC, Federal Trade Commission. We do not even look for them, and nevertheless we can quickly find advertisements that make bold promises about fat loss in the quickest amount of time. For instance, there are pills and patches supposedly designed to burn and get rid of fat almost instantly, relatively speaking. Remember that many of these varieties of goods have not been approved or supported by the FDA.
As much as the FTC is concerned, they have a full time job just keeping up with every thing else they have to manage. If you do enough of your own research, you will see that a lof so called herbal constituents have not been studied or approved for specific uses as advertised.
It is easy to understand that a person who is obese is distressed and almost too prepared to try something that may not be very good to consume. To illustrate, they see all kinds of ads for shedding pounds, and perhaps presume they are safe since they are on the shelf. Then you have to contemplate that so many products are on the market with no testing behind them. It is not abnormal at all to see products with some herbal components that may be unsafe for some people who use them. We all remember the news surrounding ephedra and the situations leading to it being prohibited in the US. However, ephedra is not alone as a potential problem for many people.
Also think about something like Phenylpropanolamine Hydro Choride which is a serious risk to some people, and yet you can Google it and find an advertisement to purchase it. This particular ingredient made the media about a decade ago when it was commonly used in cold medicines and fat reduction pills. One of the complications with this ingredient is it was sold under diverse names and all were linked to weight loss. But just a few of the problems with Phenylpropanolamine is that it “could” trigger problems such as anxiety, fast heartbeat, high blood pressure, heart injury, heart attack and of course death in some instances. What we find incredible is that if you search on it in Google, you will see ads for it – still! So then you have something like this available to people who have no clue about what they are using.
It is simply impossible, we think, for any agency to be totally aware of everything that takes place, and we must watch out for ourselves in the long run. Just think about the process that allows for a harmful product to continue to exist and be easily bought so long after the facts are acknowledged. Yet another point is that people always want an easy remedy, and we all recognize that there genuinely is no easy solution when it comes to dropping pounds. Sure, it takes diligence to lose weight, but we all know it can be done. There is no secret about losing weight and keeping it off, yet there seems to be no end to the new products that always seem to be emerging.
