Many medications used for anxiety and so forth, have side effects that may be worse than the original condition. Even though it seems much more simple to just go to a doctor, receive prescriptions, and pop pills, this may not always be the case. There are other positive ways to attack the issue of calming down.
Nice relaxing showers or baths may be of assistance, if you are at home. Using lovely fragrances in the water or applying after-shower scents can lift the spirits somewhat. There is always the age-old stress releaser of lovemaking, but for many that would not be a possibility. If it is, it’s worth trying. If nothing else, it may take your mind off your problems temporarily.
When you find yourself in a situation that is escalating into a stressful one, if it is possible, remove yourself from the problem. Avoiding the stress in the first place is sometimes the best way to deal with it. Go to a quiet place and breathe deeply, slowly, restoring your mind to a more calm attitude. If time is not of an essence, you can also do a little meditation, thinking positive thoughts of affirmation.
Activity such as is found in a gym can often help restore you to a calm attitude. Many find that a daily visit after work, or throughout the day, can actually be quite helpful. Stretching, dynamic tension of selected muscle groups and walking may be of use too. Actually, a gym is not necessary for the loosening of neck and shoulder muscles, as this can be done at a desk or restaurant table, among other places, without drawing unwanted attention.
Tai Chi and Yoga are said to be great for building up your core muscles and also so for relieving stress. They both employ slow movements directed at certain positions of the body, hands, arms legs and even head. Concentrating on breathing and going through the appropriate movements can help your brain and body become attuned to one another and bring on the needed relaxation.
In the ideal world and life, home is where you can let your hair down, doing and saying anything that is not hurtful to another. If a spouse is involved, it would be great if your relationship was such that you could talk about the day with each other and solve issues for each other. Keeping out of range of those people that antagonize you, either on purpose or accidentally, could be a solution to part of the problem.
If you search hard, you may come up with ways that work for you to stay at ease and unstressed. Walking along a beach, lake or river shore may bring you the sedate feelings you strive for. A concert-in-the-park event may even bring you the relief you seek. Enjoying the company of someone who does not trip your trigger, is a great way to relax. Music, sounds and sights of water, and serene surroundings may all help you in remaining as cool as a cucumber.
Long walks in meadows, woods or at the beach can help in calming down. Any place that is serene and pleasant will suffice. Even at home, walking on a treadmill with earphones on and lovely music playing might help. Don’t let other people steal your calm.
