How Going Back to School Can Help You Lose Weight

A few months ago I was able to spend several days at a local college campus. During that time I had the unique opportunity to observe the habits of many of the students. My observations led me to the conclusion that if anyone wants to lose weight, a college campus is the place to be. The Daily Walk to Class

On most campuses the students walk to and from their classes. There are a few campuses that spread out over 35 acres. By simply walking to class, you never have to worry that you are not getting the required amount of cardiovascular exercise you need on a daily basis.

The Heavy Books

Have you seen the textbook for any introduction to philosophy course? It weighs about 12 pounds and is required reading for the course. If you take 5 classes, you be carrying around approximately 60 pounds of books each day. Who needs a gym membership when simply carrying your books home amounts to a total body workout?

The Small Desks

Even the classrooms are a way of helping you to lose those extra pounds. Those chairs and desks are designed for 18-year olds and not for someone in their mid-forties who is returning to school. The Scenery

I mentioned the nice long walks to class but I did not mention the beautiful scenery on most college campuses. At the campus I visited, I found my walks to be tantamount to me strolling through the park on a perfect Spring day. The trees, birds, flowers and other natural features make all your stress disappear.

Even though all of this might strike you as amusing it is nonetheless important to acknowledge that physical activity, coupled with weight training and proper motivation is essential to good health and weight loss.
