Many years of research and medical experience have established how much obesity is detrimental to health. The health costs of excessive weight in 2010 for the US is massive and is well over 100 billion dollars per annum. What seems contradictory is the billions that are also used on weight reduction products each year. So there is apparently a struggle that is being waged for our well being. Of course the food and beverage industry does not help matters. Many consumers are aware of the prevalence of high calorie fats and sugars present in many types of fast foods and drinks. We only have room to cover a few of the dangers due to obesity.
Type 2 diabetes as a result of obesity continues to be increasing at an alarming rate in recent times. More younger people in their adolescent years are overweight, and doctors are seeing an upward spiral with type 2 diabetes. Obesity may cause insulin resistance which is substantial and a precursor to higher levels of glucose levels. There is little doubt that years of ingesting high sugar content food items and beverages plays a substantial role. For many years, various warnings have been made concerning the use of high fructose corn syrup in most soft drinks and other common beverages. Regular white sugar is undesirable enough, but high fructose corn syrup is incredibly sweet and detrimental with long term ingestion.
Common problems regarding joints are seen to take place in highly obese people. The primary parts are the weight supporting joints including hips, knees and ankles. When the joints have so much wear and tear, they will produce other severe issues such as arthritis. Unfortunately the typical practice of joint replacing is not always a viable option. While millions of people get joint replacements, there exists a higher chance for good results with normal weight conditions. But for those who could benefit from it yet are obese, this is simply not always advised. If a joint is replaced, what can generally occur are further side effects after the surgery. The joint that was replaced may begin to be mechanically unsound that is highly undesireable.
High blood pressure is a very common occurance among those who definitely are obese. The problem with possessing so much weight is it severely strains the entire body. All of the body fat that is present is living tissue, and therefore it needs vital oxygen and other nutritional needs. It all leads back to the heart clearly since that is what moves the bloodstream. The high blood pressure is merely due to this additional demand caused by the extra weight. Another common effect is a chronically greater heart rate caused by the higher workload needed.
It is extremely obvious that obesity is a condition that severely impacts all capabilities of the body. But our discussion here today is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to all that is possible.
