Red Reishi

I gave a wry smile when someone said Red Reishi was a “true magic mushroom”!

So, yes, Red Reishi is a mushroom. Historically Red Reishi has been utilised for its health benefits and can be traced back to about 2700 B.C in China and Japan. It has been an essential of Chinese herbal medicine since these times. Certainly, it is said in Far Eastern history books that the reason the Mandarin aristocracy of the time were so strong is that they had access to and regularly ate Red Reishi.

Being particularly tricky to find in the ancient forests, the ruling classes were the only people who had the wealth and resources to employ the many “recruits” needed to go and hunt for the mushroom and to ensure they constantly had provisions.

Stress is said to be a Western “disease”. It’s certainly at the forefront of our thoughts as a potential big killer. Dr Robert Sapolsky (a world expert on stress in modern life) described stress as “our body’s loss of ability to deal with stress”.

It’s true that Red Reishi makes no great claims in relation to being able to treat or cure any sort of illness. What actually happens is that the nutrients and phytochemicals help the body to be far more “able” to halt the processes that initially trigger disease. This is particularly so in dealing with stress related ailments. And it appears that Red Reishi helps with mental, physical and environmental stress by invigorating the body’s biological systems and defences.

It is claimed that Red Reishi is so incredibly effective because it has the unique ability to return your body from the Catabolic (break down) state of ageing to the Anabolic (build up) state of youth. Thereby helping renew your body and inhibit the process of ageing…and make you feel rather good into the bargain. Improved energy, capability (both mental and physical) and a general feeling of almost overwhelming wellbeing are the result of taking Red Resihi regularly.

I go to Vancouver fairly often and that is where I first found Red Reishi in a local health food store. So, I did some research and quickly added it to my daily supplement list! I’m not sure why, but Vancouver seems to be a good place to discover all of the latest trends in herbal and natural nutrition!

The good news is that, despite still being a little on the expensive side, Red Reishi is now becoming more universally available. Do look out for quality though, you need to make sure you only buy the best. Imitators who don’t grow the mushroom properly are out there and the sub-standard product will not provide the same health benefits.

You can ensure your product is the highest quality by checking for a small hologram on the packaging.

I have been taking Red Resihi since that last visit to Vancouver and I have to say I am delighted with what it’s done for me. Definitely an increased alertness coupled with better mental agility and also enhanced ability to exercise with added stamina. I am certainly fitter now because the extra stamina means I can exercise that bit harder and longer.

Overall, I am impressed by Red Reishi and I think it should be part of your natural supplement intake.
