Even though eating healthy is sometimes a hard thing to do, we all have that desire because we know that it is what we need. To eat healthy, making good food choices is your first priority.
Vegetables are loaded with vital minerals, vitamins and nutrients. Dark leafy greens are especially high in all of the important nutrients that your body needs. Each vegetable has something wonderful about it and your choices of vegetables should vary from day to day to ensure that you get enough of each nutrient throughout the span of a week. While 2 cups of vegetables is recommended per day, when you are trying to eat healthier, the more vegetables you can consume each day, the better.
Fruits are just as important nutritionally as vegetables and should also be eaten regularly and without restraint. However, because of their natural sugars, you should always consume more vegetables than fruits in a day. Avoid canned fruits because all of the nutrients have been cooked out of them and the sugary syrup is very unhealthy.
Not only are beans rich with protein, they are also great sources of fiber, making them an ideal protein to eat. Often, dieters will eat meat for protein which leads to constipation and weight gain because of the lack of fiber in meat. Substituting meat for beans will not only add fiber to your diet, it will also drastically cut down on the amount of saturated fat that you eat, leaving room in your arteries for blood to pump naturally.
Avoid eating solid fats. You will need to look closely at the food that you eat because bakery treats, frozen foods, and packaged foods often contain these unhealthy fats. To replace butter, margarine, shortening and lard, start incorporating cold-pressed oils such as olive, grape seed or avocado oil into your recipes. Not only can you use less oil than solid fat in recipes, the flavor will not be changed enough for anyone to notice.
If you require support buying food for yourself or family and are making a lower income, you could possibly qualify for Mississippi food stamps, Missouri food stamps, or food stamps from a different U.S. state which you are located in.
