Fat and Cells and Obesity

Time magazine recently published an article regarding obesity at a cellular level. They started their discussion with a presentation of society’s desire to lose weight. Most are either trying to lose weight or want to lose weight. But it’s difficult. In today’s society there are many things fighting against the dieter and their attempts to lose weight. When looking at the issue theoretically it seems eating less and exercising more should do the trick.

But taking it beyond theory leaves many floundering. Day to day life is stressful for most. Fast food is far too accessible. And eating out is far too convenient. And for many…high calorie/high fat foods are to comforting. All of these things are working against dieters as they attempt to lose unwanted weight.

Eating less and exercising more should result in loss of weight. But for many…it doesn’t work. This is a huge problem in today’s society. But experts are suggesting that it might not be a problem at all in the future. Researchers are working towards identifying scientifically the problems behind unnecessary weight gain and obesity by studying it at a cellular level. Studies are looking at fat storage and why different bodies store fat differently. Some store fat almost immediately while others tend to burn more calories than are consumed.

Studies are indicating specific biological situations within the makeup of the body that contribute to weight gain positively/negatively. One specific biological instance that seems to directly affect weight gain/loss is located in the intestines. They are filled with bacteria and the phenomenon can effect weight by either promoting it or curbing it entirely. Another phenomenon that affects weight is what is called a “hyperactive fat” or brown fat (most commonly found in newborns). This fat actually burns calories. This is in comparison to white fat that we all know, recognize and loathe.

Experts are hopeful that they will be able to scientifically identify enough biological phenomenon in the human body to solve the problem of obesity on today’s society. The practical findings are limitless. Dieters who find themselves asking, “Why me?” will finally have an answer. And it will be scientific.

These aren’t the only questions that will be answered. They are just a few of the questions currently being addressed in ongoing studies. Studies are focused around the obese population, fat storage and treatment and society’s reaction/treatment of obesity. Practical purposes appear to be many at this early stage in the research. Experts hope that at study conclusion they will be able to provide the practical applications that will drastically reduce the negative affects of obesity on society.

Amelia Handley studied exercise science in college with a minor in Nutrition. Yet she still found herself veering from diet to diet in order to control her weight. With HCG Diet Direct she’s found a program that allows her to combine her desire to control her own body weight with her education and not feel off balance.
