A fat burning diet generally refers to a weight loss plan that focuses on revving up the metabolism and burning large amounts of fat in a short amount of time. There are a variety of ways one may attempt to do this, both natural and otherwise.
Common fat burning diet concepts revolve around weight loss drugs and supplements, eating certain foods that burn fat, and participating in high endurance physical activities. Before any diet plan is attempted, it is advised that a doctor’s guidance be sought to avoid injury or illness.
Some fat burning diet plans recommend the use of diet pills to stimulate the metabolism which will help burn fat quickly, losing weight with little effort. While this sounds nice, this method is usually ineffective at keeping the fat off for the long term. Additionally, using these pills can be dangerous. Stimulant pills are associated with some very serious side effects including kidney failure, heart failure, and liver problems.
While there are small numbers of weight loss drugs that are considered to be safe, it is best to avoid using anything artificial in an effort to lose weight. However, those individuals that are morbidly obese, with an increased risk for serious health problems, would be the one exception to this rule. Even then, these supplements or drugs should only be used under the supervision of a health care professional.
Eating specific foods as part of a fat burning diet plan isn’t a bad idea as long as the food choices aren’t severely limited for an extended period of time. Studies have shown that some food choices like grapefruit or green tea provide fat burning benefits. While eating these types of food as the primary basis for weight loss will likely be ineffective, when they are eaten in addition to a balanced diet and exercise plan, weight loss may be faster.
High levels of exercise may also be part of a fat burning diet. Physical activity is an important part of any healthy diet and fitness plan, but overdoing it can lead to injury. Those who have not exercised in awhile should start off slowly and then gradually increase the hours of exercise performed per week. Physically fit dieters can also add greater amounts of activity each week, so long as exercises are done safely and not to the point of fatigue.
Any fat burning diet plan should be discussed in detail with a doctor before it is implemented. Some diets can do severe damage to the body, primarily those which limit food options, require diet pills to be taken, or which require excessive amounts of exercise on a daily basis. A physical and endurance test should be performed on those with health problems, and in sedentary individuals who may not be able to handle large amounts of exercise.
