On every human body there lives a lot of microorganisms and the cause of a yeast infection or Candida is one of them, called Candida Albicans. It is a fungus that lives on us while we are healthy in small numbers and at that pint is harmless to us. But if its numbers get too high it can lead to a yest infection. Yeast infections happen in warm and moist areas of the body especially the genitals, but also including the mouth where it is often referred to as Thrush.
Problems can arise if something attacks or deplete the good bacteria which control the fungus. Without them, the fungus grows unchecked. Several triggers can lead to an imbalance like this such as a diet high in sugar, or taking antibiotics. Antibiotics kill bacteria and though some target specific ‘bad bacteria’ often we are prescribed kinds that just target all bacteria, good and bad. When a genital yeast infection occurs it comes with symptoms like burning, itching and redness. Thrush (Mouth infection) has white patches around the mouth and possibly the throat which hide painful lesions beneath them.
Balance is important when preventing an infection. An environment that is too acidic allows the fungus to multiply. By changing your diet you can affect this environment and control the yeast’s growth. It is important to act quickly as a yeast infection will not go away on its own. If left untreated it can cause more serious health issues spreading to the colon can cause leaky gut syndrome which can be life threatening. If the yeast enters the blood stream a lot of damage can happen.
Treating a yeast infection means choosing between drug based and natural remedies. Over the counter treatments are effective for some, but they are designed to target the symptoms not the root cause. This means the infection can and probably will happen again. If it returns 4 or more times a year you have now got a recurring yeast infection problem and you should see your doctor.
The key to dealing with a yeast infection is finding out what the root cause of yours is and making changes. An improvement in diet may help a lot in preventing it, stop consuming alcohol, and processed foods and refined carbohydrates. Also avoid sugar and yeast. Add to your diet more leafy greens, probiotic yogurt, raw garlic, and lean proteins such as turkey or chicken. Avoid lactose and fructose such as as milk and cheese. At first it may be difficult to stay on such a diet but once you are clear of the infection it will be worth it.
