As women begin to age their body begins to go through hormonal changes. These changes sometimes begin to cause symptoms that are difficult to control. Menopause symptoms – hot flashes, night sweats, irregular menstrual cycles and vaginal dryness can be difficult for many women who experience them and they continue to have them the rest of their lives due to hormone levels dropping.
Sweating at night is not a normal process that we experience in life. It is actually an annoying and inconvenient symptom that accompanies the menopause transition. These are primarily the same as daytime hot flashes only we get them during the night while we sleep. They are brought on by the decrease in hormones that regulate the body heating system.
Those who are not lucky enough to have their symptoms dissipate after the transition are destined to deal with them the rest of their lives. Some of them are easy to control with over-the-counter medications while others require prescriptions to control. Insomnia is one of those symptoms that you need a prescription for as well as some cases of vaginal dryness.
Vaginal dryness is one indication that you are going through this transition. You may notice itching that is not relieved regardless of what is used. Many women think this is a yeast infection and contact their doctor for a prescription to cure it. Upon examination, the doctor informs them that it is not an infection but a dry vaginal tract. In these cases many women find that sexual activity becomes very uncomfortable and many times painful.
Other symptoms can be annoying but are usually less bothersome than others. Mood swings and bouts of depression are generally temporary in duration and need no medication. Memory loss, disorientation, fatigue and anxiety are more of these symptoms and the list can go on and on. Although night sweats and hot flashes are common in most every case, each woman seems to experience other symptoms that not as common.
Most doctors try to refrain from using any kind of hormone replacement treatments. There are some unsavory results from synthetic hormones which can cause cancer and other serious conditions. In most cases the risks do not outweigh the benefits of this type of treatment. Prescription medications are an alternative as well as natural remedies which are much more desirable to the medical community than unnatural remedies.
The severity of the indications will vary from one person to the next but they are still there throughout your transition. Some will come and go with little notice while others will be present even after you have completed the transition.
Every woman in the world experiences some of the same menopause symptoms – hot flashes, night sweats and other annoying sensations. It is up to you and your doctor as to what course of treatment is best for you. Some may suggest HRT while others recommend a less risky method of treatment such as natural remedies. So if you experience symptoms of menopause contact your doctor and discuss a treatment that both of you can live with.
