The problem many new mums are faced with is the question of how to become slim again after pregnancy and it is a very common problem. A once trim and firm body can appear to be left out of shape and flabby in those wonderful 9 months.
In contrast to the usual reasons people gain weight, pregnancy provides a whole set of issues. Putting on weight when pregnant is actually very normal and is in fact a good thing to do as it ensures that baby and mum remain healthy. Most ‘mums to be’ also develop strong cravings for certain types of foods and even if these are considered to be fattening then they should not be discouraged to meet this need. There is also a hormonal in-balance that occurs which can also send the appetite into overdrive.
This is all fine during pregnancy, but what happens to all this extra weight once the duration of the pregnancy ends and the baby arrives? Well, as everyone is aware, it takes some shifting and although mums main priority is with keeping baby happy it is important for her to keep healthy and also to try and get back to being slim again as soon as possible. Although there is bound to be an increase in general activity this is not always enough to remove this excess body fat. Routine and diet can go out of the window for a few months.
Here are a few pointers to consider when trying to get slim again after pregnancy:
We have already mentioned routing and diet, but this is key. It is very easy to just snack on unhealthy junk food or fast food that are going to be full of fat and sugar. This is a big ‘NO NO!’ Try as best you can to plan when you eat, but if you do end up snacking the try and have healthy food such as nuts, fruit and low fat crackers stocked up and close to hand.
You can also try and replace any sugary drinks such as juices and sodas with water or flavoured water. This can make a massive difference because avoiding high levels of sugar is a must!
A final tip would be to trying and exercise at least 15 minutes a day if you can and again a routine will help with this. Sit ups or crunches are a great form of exercise to get slim again after pregnancy because they not only help you lost weight around the stomach but also tone up the abs. You could also leave the car at home and walk to the local store with baby in buggy instead. You’ll be surprised how just a few simple steps can make a big difference
