I have a sweet tooth? Do you know what that means? It means that my teeth actually hurt if they haven’t been offered something sweet in over 2 hours. Just kidding. But I do like sweets. So does that make me incapable of sticking to a very low calorie diet? I don’t think so. In fact…I know so. People who like sweets are perfectly capable of sticking to a very low calorie diet. They just have to know when to indulge, when to substitute and when to avoid it at all costs.
When following some very low calorie diets it is only necessary to be extremely careful with your calories. It doesn’t matter where the calories are coming from; just that you stick below the mark for each day’s calorie limitation. On this type of regimen dieters can incorporate sweets it just makes it a lot harder to stick to the calorie limits because sweets are typically high in calories. When it comes right down to it many believe that this is one of the most difficult of the “tricks” because it’s hard to have a little bit and then stop and not have more. And unless you’re going to throw off the whole day you have to stick to a very little amount.
Know your available substitutes. This will depend upon the particular very low calorie diet that you are on. If you have a sweet tooth this may very well be the most vital preparation you can do for the start of your program. You’ll need to know exactly what you’re going to access to fill that “sugar void” for the duration of your very low calorie diet. Choose a sweetener that won’t kill your calorie count for the day and that is approved by your program’s protocol.
There are low calorie sugar substitutes all over the place. The tried and true SweetNLow always comes to mind. So does Equal. Then there are what is called intensely sweet sweeteners: saccharin, aspartame, sucralose, neotame, acesulfame potassium, and stevia. These are all capable of providing a lot of powerful sweetening in just a little, tiny dose. They tend to provide a high level of sweetness with a low calorie contribution.
There are two sweeteners approved for use while following the HCG diet. These two sweeteners are stevia and saccharine.
It’s a lot easier for dieters to add appropriate “sweets” into their approved meal plans when they have access to a variety of recipes. There’s even a dessert section in the HCG Diet Direct Recipe Guide that can be accessed for yummy desserts or snacks.
And we can’t forget that one other option. You could just not have sweets. I know you don’t want to. You like sweets. We’ve already discussed that. But we can’t always have everything that we want. We also all know that. And this could be one of those instances. Maybe just for a little while for the course of your very low calorie diet you can just refrain from sweets. But that’s just a thought.
