Burn Scar Removal Possibilities

The Greek word schara means “place of fire.” This is the derivation of the word scar. And it’s perfectly appropriate when you think about the fact that one of the most damaging scars are those caused by burns. When damaged, tissues of the body can do only one of two things: 1. it can regenerate or 2. it can scar. “Scar” refers to those areas of fibrous tissue that replace normal skin due to injury or injurious disease.

There is a natural healing process by which the body deals with wounds minor, moderate and severe. And scarring is a natural part of this process. The more severe the injury…the more likely that scarring will be drastic.

Scar tissue has decreased functionality in comparison to the original healthy tissue that it is replacing due to injury, etc. Decreased functionality can refer to the lack of sweat glands in scar tissue, the elimination of hair follicle growth in scar tissue and the decreased ability to resist the effects of ultraviolet radiation.

Eric Jantze of BioCosmetic Center suggests, “Scars caused by burns of some type probably make up the majority of those that come in looking for scar removal. This is likely due to the fact that burn scars are highly visible and a drastic reduction of the visibility of the scarring can be life altering. Burn scar removal often results in drastic improvement of the patient’s self image and general confidence.”

Several things can be done when an individual experiences a burn that can reduce the scarring:

1. Immediately apply a mixture (cold water/tumeric) to the burn area. If tumeric isn’t available then substitute cold milk. The cold water is meant to decrease the burning sensation to provide relief. The tumeric (or cold milk) is meant to reduce generation of scar tissue.

2. No lotions or creams should be applied to the burn area until the burn is healed unless otherwise directed by a physician.

3. Homeopathic remedies can be beneficial in many instances, but burn scar removal is not one of them. To reduce the visibility of burn scarring the only effective treatment on the current market is laser burn scar removal.

While laser burn scar removal is effective it cannot remove a scar 100%. This is impossible as they are there for a reason. But they can be drastically reduced; in some cases they can reduced visually by up to 80%.
