More often than not, a tight set of muscles will alter your posture and make it very hard for you to perform the most effective exercises for toning your body.
Now the bad news here is that modern modes of living degenerate your posture very quickly.
So, without further ado, here is how to increase the effectiveness of your flexibility training:
1. Get your body hot: Increasing your core temperature is one of the best things you can do to make all your tissues more pliable. And more pliable tissues are less likely to get injured and will be easier to stretch. Moreover, increasing your body temperature will increase circulation.
2. Practice myofascial release: Now this isn’t the most fun type of training. However, if you have a postural imbalance it’s absolutely necessary. So get yourself a good foam roller and start loosening up your muscles as soon as possible.
3. Don’t dismiss static stretching: There was some research done that showed how static stretching can reduce force output. This research, however, was flawed and if you have a muscular imbalance static stretching before a workout can help.
4. Use new school stretching: The newest type of stretching is called dynamic stretching. The great thing about this type of stretching is that it mimics exercise movements. This in turn makes it very effective for warming up the specific muscles you will be using.
5. Get loose before your workout: The last thing you want is a tight body that can’t move correctly when you exercise. You see, if you aren’t moving correctly your joints will have to absorb abnormally high loads. And this can lead to joint degeneration.
6. Stretch your body as much as possible: Unlike other modalities, you can stretch as much as you want. In fact, if you have a serious imbalance you are best off stretching every day until it goes away. Then you can slowly decrease the frequency of your stretching.
Any type of muscle imbalance because of inflexibility can cause some serious damage down the road. So don’t ignore tight muscles!
