Lower back pain is one of the top complaints in western society and it’s directly tied to progress. You see, the more time you spend sitting down, the more at risk your lower back is.
So here is how to keep your back healthy when getting in shape:
1. Take out all the instigators: If a certain activity or movement pattern is increasing lower back pain, then you have to remove it, at least in the short term. Once your stabilizing and movement muscles become stronger, you can resume the movements again.
2. Avoid all rounding out: The moment your back rounds out, risk of injury increases a lot. And a serious injury can stop your weight loss efforts in a second. So make sure you prevent any rounding out during exercise and outside of exercise for best results.
3. Stabilize first, then move: You could separate your core muscles into two groups, stabilizers and movers. For the best effect, you need to work on the stabilizers before working on the movers. This will ensure the best stability for your lower spine.
4. Be patient: Don’t expect to see results over night. It many cases, it can take up to three months for spinal stability and health to become noticeably better. The key here is to not give and keep plugging away at the exercises. If you wait, you will have a stronger back.
5. Pull towards your chest: Pull ups and pulldowns are great for building up the biggest muscles in your back. And these muscles can also help stabilize your spine. The key here is to pull downward towards your chest, this technique provides the best benefit here.
6. Have your posture checked out: This is a great way to preempt any dangerous postural imbalances you may have. So seek out a competent professional that can help reveal what is going on with your posture. Spending money to have this done is well worth it.
Maintaining back health is one of the best things you can do to ensure longevity in the realm of exercise. If you neglect your lower back, it will catch up to you sooner or later!
