Would you like to lose weight fast? Then just do not eat. Did you ever see those pictures of the survivors of Nazi concentration camps? They lost weight didn’t they? And they did it all with the help of diets enforced by their captors.
Starvation is a way to lose weight. But I’m sure that on the surface you will simply reject that idea. Eating is a natural and healthy thing to do. You just can’t stop.
While starving yourself like a concentration camp prisoner isn’t something you’ll consider, how many people try to lose weight by trying to eat less. Or perhaps just eating celery and carrots or drinking water.
Starvation actually works, if only for a while. Go Ahead, try it for several days. Get on a small portion, low calorie diet and see if you don’t lose weight. The truth is you will lose weight and you’ll see it when you weigh yourself.
Then two things occur. The most likely occurance is that your will power will break down. But not all at once. You’ll approach a meal time and maybe you are at your favorite hamburger restaurant where they also serve a good salad. As you place your order, you’ll think, “You know I’ve been on this diet a while now and I’ve lost some weight, I’ll just reward myself with a bacon double cheeseburger. I’ll get the salad next time.” So you do. And the hamburger is really, really good.
What you’ve done is broken your regimen. Not by much, but enough that your discipline has been corrupted. Later that day you weigh yourself and, what do you know, you didn’t gain any weight. The hamburger you had didn’t effect your weight. So now your brain says “You know, that hamburger was really good and I didn’t gain any weight after I ate it, so perhaps I can put hamburgers back on my diet plan.”
Now here’s the double whammy to your diet.
As you eat less than you really require for good nutrition, your body says “There’s a food shortage. I’ve got to protect myself because I don’t know when the food shortage will end.” So your body starts consuming muscle. It will save the fat for later. That’s because fat is for an extended emergency.
Now here’s where your body really fools you. Because your muscle mass is less, but your fat mass is about the same, your metabolism goes down. That means that in order to continue to lose weight you have to eat less and less.
There are ways to lose weight, but it’s not suffering through low calorie, low carb, small portion diets.
Losing weight the right way is actually easier than losing weight the wrong way. Another benefit is, that if you lose weight the right way, you’ll keep it off for the rest of your life. Now, wouldn’t that be great?
