Not everybody likes to work out in a gym, not everybody has access to a gym. Even worse, as a result of the current financial climate, some people simply cannot afford a gym membership.
As a result, body weight workouts have become ultra popular over the last couple of years. Notice all the at home exercise gadgets and routines that have flooded the market?
The main problem here, however, is that body weight workouts aren’t very conducive towards increases in resistance. After all, you are using your own body weight.
So here are 5 ways to take your body weight workouts to the next level:
1. Reduce your tempo: Most people exercise with a regular tempo, and this is fine. But if you really want to increase the burn, experiment with ultra slow tempos. This “slowing down” will really put the burn on your muscles. Moreover, it will help you activate more core muscles.
2. Truncate your rest periods: By truncating, or reducing your rest periods, you will prevent your muscles from fully recovering in between exercises. This will stress them to a further degree and get you better results.
3. Start merging exercise sets: In other words, perform one set of an exercise, don’t rest, then immediately perform another set for a different exercise. By doing this, you will really crank up the intensity of your workouts. Just make sure your form doesn’t deviate despite the additional muscular stress.
4. Add partial reps: Once your muscles have fatigued doing a given exercise, keep on going by doing partial reps. This is a fantastic way to completely drain the muscle and accelerate results. The key here is to make sure your form and posture doesn’t deviate even though you are going beyond your limits.
5. Squeeze, squeeze and squeeze some more: By squeezing towards the end of your exercise movements, you will increase the activation of the targeted muscle fibers. And increasing activation of the targeted muscle is a great way to ensure proper bio mechanics.
Alright, now you have some great techniques for increasing the effectiveness of your body weight workouts. Now just make sure you act on this information now, not later. Because later usually never comes!
