A History of Weight Loss Remedies

We certainly have seen plenty of diets come and go. In recent history you could try the Master Cleanse – a liquid diet mostly lemon or lime juice. Or maybe you preferred Atkins – low or no carbs. South Beach Diet was very popular, also a low carb diet. Plenty of people had some weight loss success with these, but they aren’t top of the list anymore.

These diets gain quickly in popularity. The media faithfully reports the appearance of the new fad, the rising number of people adopting the diet and testimonials of success from satisfied, slimmed-down believers. But soon enough, there are reports of the dangers involved with unusual weight-loss schemes that often involve cutting out much-needed food groups, or eating only a certain food or food group. Then, follow-up stories trickle from unsatisfied customers, or from former believers who have since gained the weight back. More or less, by the time this cycle runs its course, it begins again with a new diet fad.

Earlier on there were some diets that we might today consider with horror, but they were the popular item of their day. From about 1920 to 1950 the tapeworm diet was popular – you didn’t have to change what you ate, but you had to ingest a tapeworm who would happily eat up your overindulgence’s. Reducing soap was popular in the 1920’s – any part of your body washed with this soap was supposed to miraculously slim down. We wish!

The dawn of TV brought ads for a vibrating machine that was just supposed to shake fat off of you. You wrapped a belt around yourself, connected it to the machine and stood there while the belt vibrated. Babe Ruth used this device, and if he is any proof, it didn’t work.

Plenty of available food seems to bring on the sin of gluttony. Some fortunate people have milked this for all it is worth – weight loss is an industry, bringing in untold millions of dollars yearly.

A diet that has recently become popular is the hCG diet. It’s not actually very new, as it was developed by Dr. Simeon in the 1950’s, but it has recently become popular. Dr. Simeon discovered that hCG, a hormone found in pregnant women, would reset metabolism to burn fat, and thus keep the fat off when a person returned to a normal diet.

Recently the media, smelling a controversy, has jumped right in with news about this diet, both good and bad. But the reason for any controversy about this diet is from “practitioners” who have altered Dr. Simeon’s original treatment, dispensing hCG drops rather than injections and other alterations, to make the results unworkable.

At Angel Longevity Medical Center, Dr. Simeon’s original plan is followed, and a practicing physician, Dr. Anju Mather, supervises each patient closely so that nothing can go wrong. The diet is safe, without side effects, and results are obvious from hundreds of patients who now lead happier healthier and thinner lives. They call it the “Slim and Trim at Last” protocol, and each patient is individually attended to so that he or she can lose weight, maintain the loss, and not get into any trouble.
