Then it happens that men who are seven to nine years older than their wives have a lower mortality rate by about eleven percent – quite a difference.
The study involved Danish folks. The summary shows that life expectancy was related to the amount of the age gap between women and their husbands.
Once upon a time, researchers were under the impression that healthy folks simply chose younger spouses than those who were not quite as healthy. However, these new findings don’t really support that evidence.
There are a couple of explanations. For one, women maintain outside relationships and therefore are less likely to experience a benefit from the marriage. Also, women who marry younger men are more stressed out and that kills them quickly.
Regardless, women’s life expectancy still tends to remain longer than men. Also, whoever is married tends to live longer than those who are not married. The old line is true about all of that.
