Despite what some so called experts may claim, the bottom line is that weight loss is dependent on calories in versus calories out.
The bad news is that many people are stuck in scenarios where they can’t control how much they eat.
Thus, here are 6 reasons why you can’t stop overeating:
1. There is an addiction: Just like drugs, you can become addicted to food. It all has to do with dopamine, a feel good neurotransmitter in your brain. The bad news here is that dopamine can become very addictive when you eat massive amounts of sugary foods.
2. Negative emotions have overtaken you: Because the ingestion of food can cause an almost immediate surge in feel good hormones, it can become very easy to use food as a tool for appeasing negative emotional states.
3. Your diet lacks bulk: If your diet doesn’t have a critical mass of bulk, you will be perpetually hungry. The issue here is that your digestive system doesn’t sense the caloric content of a meal, but it does sense how much volume is in a meal.
4. You are relying on extreme food restriction: Paradoxically, restricting food too much will backfire and you set you up for bingeing. And once you start bingeing the weight will come on very quickly. So make sure exercise is your main tool for achieving a negative caloric balance.
5. You may not be able to absorb nutrients very well: All else being equal, if you have insulin resistance, you may not be able to absorb nutrients very well. This in turn can cause excessive feelings of hunger. Thus, it’s in your best interest to eat legumes and beans as your carbohydrate sources.
6. Sleep could be the culprit: Disrupted sleep can really alter normal eating patterns. You see, sleep helps your body’s hormones enter a stable rhythm. Once this rhythm is interrupted, your levels of hunger can begin oscillating.
Not being able to control your food intake will keep you from getting the body you want. So take action here sooner rather than later.
