Science has some surprises regarding belly fat tea for weight loss. One is that caffeine is not as important as other ingredients. In fact, the active ingredient is not even a stimulant. It is an antioxidant. Here is what you need to know and what to look for in an effective weight loss formula.
The Most Important Tea
The word tea loosely refers to any herbal material that can be steeped in hot water and used as a beverage. Nutrition stores and supermarkets have whole sections of different teas that offer multitudes of different kinds of herbs and herb blends for making teas.
The tea that you want to look for as a weight loss supplement or drink is made from just one species of plant, Camellia sinensis. This species gives us green tea, black tea, white tea, and oolong tea. Different types of teas come from various combinations of leaves, leaf buds, and internodes.
This is the tea that offers the best active ingredients for losing belly fat. Those ingredients are called catechins, the main one being epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCG. Note, however, that EGCG is not present in black tea. The best sources of EGCG are green tea and white tea.
Choosing The Right Belly Fat Tea Product
The best products are going to be supplements that are derived from tea extracts, not the whole tea itself. You can, of course, brew your own tea. However, you will have no way to tell whether you are getting enough EGCG in your tea. Likewise, supplements that contain powdered tea leaves (whole herb) also fail to offer a reliable amount of absorbable EGCG.
Studies show that the daily dose of EGCG that gives the best results for weight loss is around 300 milligrams per day. The key, therefore, is to choose a product that clearly states how much EGCG you can expect in a serving of 1 to 2 capsules per day of white or green tea extract.
The best brands come from several manufacturers, so you should be able to find a good product in most nutrition stores. No product is going to be vastly superior to others, as long as you get the right amount of EGCG. Don’t fall for any marketing hype that says otherwise.
More Than Weight Loss
We already know that EGCG speed up metabolism by increasing the thermogenic effect of food (i.e., burning calories more efficiently). In addition, a daily dose of 625 milligrams of tea catechins, combined with 39 milligrams of caffeine, also accelerated the loss of abdominal fat with moderate exercise (180 minutes per week) by the end of a 12 week study in 2009 in the Journal of Nutrition. The control group took only the caffeine, hout catechins, and exercised the same amount.
