Spring is coming and along with reorganizing our homes we want to change up something about ourselves. The winter months can make us feel drab, and one of the best ways to bright yourself up is by switching up your hair color. Whatever category your hair fall under there is always a way to mix things up and give your confidence a boost.
If you have dark hair and want to add some dimension into your hair, going lighter is always a fun choice. This does not necessarily mean putting in blonde. While that is an option if you want a drastic change, there are more subtle ways of brightening your hair. You can talk with your stylist and see which hair colors would compliment you best. A lot of times putting in highlights just one or two levels lighter than the color you already have will boost the “ooh la la” factor in your hair.
Sometimes those with lighter hair feel a bit monotone and drab. In this case, adding lowlights can bring dramatic results. Adding darker strands to your hair will actually make the lighter ones look brighter, adding more dimension to your over-all color.
Those who don’t want to change the color level of their hair, but still want to liven things up, might consider adding a tone to their hair. Adding gold tones can be very flattering to those with brown eyes, or those who want to overcome the ash tones of graying hair. Someone with steel blue eyes may want to add ash tones. Consulting your stylist will help you make the right choice. You could also add shine without color by simply using a glosser.
You may be reading through these suggestions and come to the conclusion that you love your hair color just the way it is, yet still want a change. My final suggestion would be to ask your stylist to switch up the pattern in which she applies high/lowlights. Educated hair stylists have been trained in many different patterns of applying color and can get into foil placement routines with their clients. This is common because the clients always seem to love what their stylists do, and/or didn’t know there are more options. Switching up the pattern helps for coverage in different areas of the hair. It also helps blend lines from previous services. I suggest everyone switch up the pattern in which color is applied every 2-3 visits if they want a change but aren’t ready to commit to an overhaul.
Embrace the new season. Spring is the rebirth of the whole world around you, so take a cue from Mother Nature and try something new. If you have not found the solution you were looking for, it may just be time for a whole new haircut, but I will save that discussion for another day.
