When I initially started on my expedition to clearing my Keratosis Pilaris naturally by addressing the underlying causes, I found out certain foods that would flare up my Keratosis Pilaris.
If I avoided these foods, my Keratosis Pilaris would get dramatically better and reduced any new bumps from forming.
I discovered that two of my biggest triggers to my Keratosis Pilaris were gluten and dairy. I knew that dairy was a huge problem for me because I used to get severe abdominal cramping after drinking milk when I was younger. This happened without fail after I drank a glass of milk, or even had it in my cereal.
When I started to figure out about how cow’s milk can influence the immune system (if sensitive or intolerant) when studying Naturopathy, I decided to give up milk and anything dairy linked. At first I saw that I did not get sick constantly (I had a surprising immune system when I was younger), I did not feel uncomfortable and sick in the tummy all the time and I noticed by KP wasn’t as bumpy.
I was tremendously thrilled with how much healthier I felt and I just couldn’t believe that something I was eating could have such an impact on my health. Specially something that we are taught is necessary for optimum health.
My Experience With Eliminating Dairy And Wheat
After a few years into my Naturopathy degree, I tried giving up wheat and gluten rich foods later after being told by a Naturopath that I could also have a problem with these foods.
I was thinking my world had been turned over, when I soon discovered what foods wheat and gluten was in. It was very daunting and frightening at first trying to find replacements to the foods I usually consumed – at times I felt like I was starving because I just was not educated on what to exchange my food with.
After getting use to eating dairy and wheat free, I started to become aware of a big difference in my overall health. It is funny how you don’t realize how sick you were until you begin feeling normal!
On top of this I noticed the bumps on my legs and arms didn’t look as irritated and on some parts of my skin they were completely disappearing.
I was one pleased girl! All that willpower and difficult work was paying off.
Just The Beginning
Eliminating dairy and wheat was the beginning of my journey to clearing my Keratosis Pilaris. It was the first step where I finally discovered that there was more to this skin condition than just a genetic predisposition.
It was not the only cause to my Keratosis Pilaris that I soon discovered as it didn’t totally eliminate my bumpy skin, but it was certainly a starting point for me that allowed me to find out how to radically reduce the appearance of my KP.
If you haven’t thought about food being a trigger to your Keratosis Pilaris, then I highly advise you give it a go. But before you carry out, please make sure you are very aware of what foods to swap them with and are prepared with how to consume a balanced diet when eliminating a major food group.
