Many of us would think that we already know what could cause OCD or obsessive compulsive disorder that we can immediately say we can absolutely prevent it from ever happening. But the truth would entail otherwise as there are no known specific factors or at least proven tangible causes of OCD development in a person. Even if researches are further continued, as of this moment, specialists are still unable to put an ultimate end or conclusion to the prior conceived theories. However, presumably they are coming close to their goals as every day comes new discoveries that would augment our understanding towards obsessive compulsive disorder. As of today, there are many made known theories that we are able to use as basis in treating OCD issues. One theory talks about heredity; basically referring to the genetic information being handed down from generation to generation. According to recent research, they have discovered a chromosome that could potentially double the possibilities of a person to develop OCD. Meaning to say, if a person have a family that has OCD backgrounds, then there is a greater chance that that person will develop OCD as well in time. Another facet of the theory pertains about chemical imbalances within the human body. A particular chemical called “serotonin” is perceived to be the chemical responsible for causing OCD. Empirically speaking, low serotonin levels could lead to hormonal imbalances and thus a person having mood swings. Therefore specialists have deduced that it is a possible contributing factor. Another explanation leads to the possibilities of violent occurrences in a person’s life as a cause to an OCD development.
