Your thoughts could be holding you back from losing weight and keeping it off.
Why?
Because what you think directly impacts your success and what you create in your life. If you’re unsure about this statement, take a moment to look around you. Listen to peoples’ comments, and you’ll notice that negative people, places and things continue to attract negative people, places and things, and vice versa. In other words, if you’re:
1) constantly down on yourself,
2) thinking about how hard it will be to lose weight, or
3) often tell yourself you can’t lose weight easily, then you most likely will not lose weight, and if you do, you’ll likely have a hard time keeping it off.
On the flip side, if you tell yourself daily:
1) how wonderful you are (and mean it),
2) how easy weight loss is, and
3) how much fun life can be, then you’ll make your weight loss journey much easier and smoother with faster results.
So how can you approach this challenge of changing your thoughts to promote weight loss and happiness in your life?
Be mindful of your current thoughts and thought processes.
Be mindful of the thoughts and actions of those you surround yourself with.
Start shifting your thoughts by using positive affirmations and statements.
Clear the negativity from your mind through techniques such as meditation and visualization.
This article will focus on items 1 and 2 above.
Be mindful of your current thoughts and thought processes.
It’s hard to change a habit if you don’t know where to begin, or even more important, if you’re not aware of it in the first place. Chances are you’re more negative than you realize.
So, get a pen and a piece of paper ready and start taking notes. For a week, take time each day to be mindful of what you think, and every time you think anything negative, put a mark on your piece of paper. It can be a simple statement such as “I hate this” or “I can’t do this” to a more detailed one like “I really dislike how I look in this dress” to “losing weight is much easier for others vs. me”.
And pay attention to the emotion behind your statements. A seemingly harmless statement may be more damaging than you realize if the emotion behind it is negative.
Be mindful of the thoughts and actions of those you surround yourself with.
Next, start paying attention and taking notes on the energy, thoughts and words of those you surround yourself with. If you constantly hear and surround yourself with negativity, it will be harder for you to shift to a more positive mindset and energy.
So now that you know what you need to do to become aware of your current mindset and thought processes to help support natural weight loss, you can begin to shift your thoughts by using the techniques outlined in items 3 and 4 above which are discussed in “Changing Your Thoughts to Promote Weight Loss – Part 2”.
