Choosing The Right Workout Routine For Anyone

Not everyone enjoys exercising. But whether you enjoy it or not, if you do plan to exercise, you will want to get the most out of it. Choosing the right workout routine ensures that your efforts are rewarded.

Anything is better than nothing, but a good exercise plan will include elements of cardio, weight training, and stretching. These don’t have to be done separately– yoga is great for both stretching and strength training, as is pilates. But all of these things should be included in order to achieve the maximum fitness possible.

The cardio portion of the program should include some sort of exercise that requires enough effort to get your heart pumping more strongly than usual. Biking, walking, jogging, hiking, skiing, swimming, and playing all sorts of sports are all types of cardio to consider. Any time you are moving and sweating, you can count it as cardio.

Cardio should be done at least three days a week in order to sustain fitness, and at least four to see improvements. Weight training should be done at least two days a week, but not on consecutive days. Stretching can be incorporated into your workouts, or you can devote an exercise session entirely to stretching. Make sure to still stretch as necessary in order not to injure yourself on other days.

Most people fall into a routine where they mostly do just one kind of exercise, like jogging or biking. This isn’t a bad idea, but to see the best results in terms of fitness, making sure to do other things occasionally is a better idea. Some people choose to designate one or two days a week as ‘cross-training’ days, and do something different then.

If you dislike exercising, consider purchasing a stationary bicycle or treadmill and setting it up in front of your television. Or install a book holder on the machine, if you like to read. Music and books on tape are popular, but be cautious when using them outdoors, because your attention will be diverted and your hearing obstructed, which can be dangerous.

Choosing the right workout routine can make the difference between giving up and sticking with it for a long period of time. But if you choose wrong, just remember to pick another plan and keep going. Exercise is vital to your health, and keeping fit can keep you feeling at your best.
