Diabetes: Things To Know

Diabetes is a chronic and incurable disease. It results from a body’s inner imbalance, related to blood sugar disorder. It is also called Diabetes Mellitus, where the term mellitus is a Latin word for honey, since the urine of a diabetic patient has a sweet taste. From the written we can foresee that diabetes has something to deal with increased blood sugar, which is inappropriately supplied into body cells. Why is level of blood sugar increased and what causes it?

When talking about diabetes, it’s everything about a hormone which is known as insulin. It helps restoring the sugar balance in our body. It regulates the uptaking of glucose from the blood into our body cells. Can you imagine how it would be like if our body was unable to produce enough required insulin? This would mean that the the sugar stays in the blood and doesn’t move over to other parts of our body such as muscles and cells. This is what is known as one type of diabetes. This would normally occur in your childhood. It would make you dependant on insulin meaning it would create a disorder.

Type 2 diabetes:In this kind of diabetes patient’s body produces enough insulin but the cells do not respond to the insulin produced. As the cells do not take the insulin, the hormone remains in the blood without reaching the cells. Mainly adults get affected by Type 2 diabetes. This leads to new food habits and extra exercise in the old age.

The third category of diabetes is known as gestational diabetes. This disease attacks pregnant women. It is not necessary that women had diabetes before. Gestational diabetes can occur to pregnant women who never were diagnosed with diabetes before. However, after the woman gives birth to the child, it might disappear or change itself into type 2 of diabetes. Fetus and mother’s health, both can be effected. So one should pay proper attention to it.

As mentioned above, no kind of diabetes can be cured. However, symptoms can be eased: by type 1 with an insulin injection, by type 2 and gestational diabetes with healthy lifestyle, diet and exercising. Since sugar is brought to blood by food we ate and since diabetic patients have high blood sugar due to insulin failure, they should not increase their blood sugar imbalance with high carbohydrate diet. They should consume non-sugar products or products that contain artificial sweeteners, which do not increase the blood sugar.

So far, we know that by diabetes some blood sugar remains in our blood circulation. Since it can’t be supplied to cells, which need it, a part of glucose is carried out from our body through urine. That is why urine of a diabetic patient has sweet taste. Increased level of glucose in urine causes kidney overwork, which results in increased urine production and consecutively dehydration and thirst. Besides the main diabetes symptoms, patient can also suffer from vision problems, breath smell and increased hunger.

Nowadays diabetes seems to be a health problem which can’t be negligible, since 2.8% of world population suffers from one type of this disease. Nevertheless, apart from diabetes, medicine healing development also increases and what is more, appropriate lifestyle is a parameter we can and should increase the most.
