Disturbing New Study Shows That Americans Are Winning The Obesity Race – What Will You Do?

Of the 33 richest countries on the planet, the U.S. is the leader in the number of people who are obese, according to a recent report. The study being referred to in this report states that by 2020, 75% of Americans will either be overweight or obese.

This is very disturbing news. Dr. Ian Smith, who commented on the results of this new study, expressed his own concerns about this. The issue is that Americans have an abundance and because of this they “tend to overindulge, particularly when it comes to food and beverages.”

Dr. Ian Smith, who commented on this recent report, detailed a very simple, five-step reduction plan that anyone can implement. Here it is:

1) Stop consuming all white food items, meaning white sugar, white rice, white bread, and white pasta. These have very little nutritional value and very high glycemic indexes. They will make you fat!

2) Make a point of eating five helpings of fruit and vegetables each and every day. These foods provide the body with the correct kind of carbohydrates as well as being a great source of fiber.

3) Make a real commitment to start a moderate exercise program, four times each week for a minimum of thirty-five minutes each time. This is for beginners. Once you are in better shape you should aim for one hour for each exercise session.

4) We tend to eat too much at one sitting. Therefore, aim to eat four smaller meals throughout the day instead of three large ones. This will aid in keeping your metabolism running faster and therefore you’ll burn fat more easily.

5) Spend an hour every day to relax and reduce your stress. This is because stress can also cause weight gain.

When Dr. Smith was asked how to fit exercise into a very busy lifestyle and if cutting back on sleep would be one way to do so, he replied, “No way. Studies have shown that people who are not getting enough sleep are also at risk for weight gain. Here’s the issue, it’s about priorities and setting balance. You have to figure out what is most important for you from a physical and health standpoint, and just like you do a air appointment or a car appointment, you have to schedule for yourself time for you. And this is why I preach all the time to people make yourself a priority and don’t always think that you can come last.”

When asked about the number of kids in the U.S. that are becoming overweight and obese, he said, “It’s an embarrassment, The United States should be embarrassed our children are as heavy as they are, especially with all the technology and all the knowledge that we have about how to make it right. The first thing we can do is to put physical education back in classrooms. Because of local budgetary cuts they’ve take out gym. We used to call it gym or P.E., this is what children need, we’ve got to get that back in there. And secondly, we have to revitalize these cafeterias. The food that our children are eating in these cafeterias is just ridiculous. High calorie, high sweetened, no nutritional value. Those are the two places we can start to make a difference.”

The question for you is, do you care about this disturbing situation? As a parent, if you are one, how much do you really care about the future health and well being of your kids? Do you care enough to do something to improve their eating habits, if they have bad ones? As a family, how is your overall health and fitness level? Are all of you overweight or perhaps even obese? Are you ready to make a commitment to change the things you need to change in order to have a healthier and more physically fit family?
