Do you need to get fit enough to go to the Gym?

As we grow older we become more and more unfit, without some sort of exercise we become overweight and our bodies expand in all the wrong places.

The problem is that keeping fit isn’t much fun, not at the start anyway, and if its uncomfortable or we can’t see immediate results our resolve dissolves and we stop doing it. We need motivation to keep on going, to keep us interested and wanting to carry on exercising. How do we address this problem?

An obvious thing to do is to join your local Gym, yes this will keep you fit and healthy, but only if you keep on doing it and start to feel the benefit. It becomes very easy to slacken off and reduce the number of times you visit because maybe it’s dark and cold outside or maybe you would just rather be doing something else.

You could of course go along with somebody you know and it all starts to come together, you push each other on and encourage each other. You enjoy the facilities, the music, you even enjoy those other bodies working out around you. But that would make you different to most of us because for the rest of us, it’s still not working, we just aren’t comfortable there.

The reason we are not comfortable is that we don’t feel right, we are a bit embarrassed. Here are all these people buffed and toned staring at our puny bodies and weedy efforts. Well that’s what it feels like to us anyway. We are beginning our journey to fitness but just feel foolish in front of others, we end up not really doing much other than wishing time away so that we can get out of there and never come back.

We need to find the confidence to use the equipment, but more importantly not to be embarrassed about our own bodies whilst we are working out to improve them further. So how can we do this? Well we need to address our body image issues before we start using the gym. This means getting ourselves fit enough to start going to the Gym. But how?

OK, what we need to do is to give ourselves a 6 week Ready-for-Gym makeover. We are not saying that we are going to be bronzed and toned in 6 weeks, just fit enough to go to the Gym without embarrassment.

Our eating habits are the first thing we need to change for these 6 weeks. Try to control yourself, ask yourself if you really need to eat whatever it is. Stop the in between meal snacks and drinks. Stop the junk food. If you eat, just what you know is good food for these 6 weeks you will be surprised at the difference it makes to your body.

Alongside the healthier eating plan we need to put in place some regular exercise and not just a walk down the street either. Proper exercise that makes you feel out of breath or gives you a slight ache in muscles you had forgotten you had. Of course it needs to be something you are capable of doing, and doing it at least 3 times a week for a minimum of an hour each time. Swimming is a great one, if you push yourself to swim up and down the pool 3 times a week for an hour each time your body will be toning itself all over and will look great after just 6 short weeks.

If swimming is not for you then an exercise bike or treadmill at home will do just as good. Get it set up in front of the TV and work your body instead of just sitting watching. Remember a minimum of 3 hours per week for 6 weeks, pushing yourself will get your body fit for the Gym, but in front of the TV I bet you could do at least 1 hour a day. Go on give yourself a 6 week Body Boost.
