Eating Healthier Together

Nearing middle age gave me a reason to take stock of where I was at. Two kids and a good spouse was definitely a good accomplishment. We had managed to buy a good home in a good neighborhood. My job was fairly secure and we were financially stable. All in all, I had been able to accomplish what I expected to do by this time in my life.

I was content, but I knew I could do something better. I was not as healthy as I wanted. As I got older, I kept have to buy bigger pants. It was not something I wanted. But as I looked around I noticed something. The whole family could withstand losing some weight. None of us had a big problem with our weight. But all of us had a weight issue of some kind to face. I think that I set a bad example that was being followed by the others and decided to do something about it, but I knew that it was not a case of me deciding on a way My Family Diet, but rather a time for my whole family to start making better choices about how we were treating our bodies and decide on how we could improve the choices. As the head o the household it was up to me to get my family to make the right choices about how to treat their body.

Deciding that it was time to get healthy as a family was not difficult. The road that we were going to have to follow to accomplish this goal was not going to be so simple. Getting my wife and children to agree that we should all do this was the first thing I had to do. Deciding on what we would do was another. A family meeting was called to decide what we would actually do. The first thing we talked about was food. I began this discussion by starting a food journal for everyone. We all saw that the use of the drive thru was all of ours first choice. We all knew that too much fast food was not healthy and changing this would go a long way in improving our diet and although cutting it out would not help us learn My Family Diet it would help us start to lose some weight if we were able to combine it with other changes in our lifestyle, and we had to figure out why we had become dependent on things like fast food and snacking to keep us full.

We knew we would have to make some changes in our daily routine to accomplish our goals. We decided that we could have family dinners if we wanted. That helped us stop depending on the local drive thru for dinner. By planning family meals, we could choose things that were better for us to eat. It was also a great way to get involved in the lives of everyone in our family. Doing this would not only help our bodies, but our spirits as well. We also went and emptied the cupboards of everything that we should not be eating. The things that we snacked on wood have to be healthier to remain in our home. The best way to stop eating things that we should not eat was to get rid of them. After dinner we came together to take a stroll as a family. We really could have chosen any type of physical activity if we wanted to. Doing it as a family is what made it work. It made all of us feel better that we made it a family activity.

Our family has been making healthy choices for around six months. Our health has improved somewhat. More importantly our family has improved a lot. I had no idea when this started that that would happen. It was also the best thing that could have happened.
