Many of us eat in the car on the way to or from work. It’s how we shave a little bit of time off of our already overburdened schedules. We eat in a hurry, we eat distracted, and this hurts our health. Have you thought that your own eating tendencies may be harming your overall health?
It’s not surprising if you are. Our modern eating habits have changed, and not for the better. We are so rushed, and we have such routine and mechanical lives, that finding the time to eat a balanced and healthy diet seems impossible.
Let’s face it, when you are hurrying you are just concerned with getting some food. Eating healthy food, let alone homemade food, is not a big priority. You are looking to be full. But you’ll end up feeling far worse in the long run and damaging your health this way.
This has been neglected all too often today. We want our food not only fast but faster. It’s not fast food, it’s instant food. Microwave meals, even, take too long to prepare. Our fast foods are often fried, fatty, stale and overly spiced or overly salty to try to make them palatable.
You know what happens when you fill your diet with fried and processed and overly spiced foods? Often this leads to obesity and sickness. This is a bad thing.
Ideally you want to eat slowly and at regular intervals. You need to eat the best quality food you can. Worry less about the amount and more about the quality. You have the ability to make wise food choices, including raw vegetables and fruits. Vegetarian options are also a good choice.
When was the last time you had a nice green smoothie, or a leafy salad? Try them! Even if you think you won’t like it, make a smoothie or a salad anyhow and give it a try. I am betting you will be amazed that these foods taste as good as they do.
Bear in mind it may take your body a bit of an adjustment period to get used to your new diet. Healthy food can be difficult to process if you are used to junk. Have the determination to follow through and stick with your new healthy regimen, this can greatly contribute to your long range health and even lengthen your life.
